Walter “Fox” Maule, 81, of Independence, died Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Grand View Care Center, Blair. Walter was born August 19, 1935, in Lincoln Township, Trempealeau County, to Peter P. and Mary (Gamroth) Maule. Fox worked on highway construction until retirement. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper, sharing his knowledge with many young people in Independence. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence and the Elk Rod and Gun Club. He is survived by his sister, Lucille Fred of Houston, Texas; sister-in-law, Becky Maule of Independence; nieces and nephews, Stuart (Paula) Fred, Mike Fred, Nancy (Jan) Sadick, Sandi Brandt, Kim (Paul) Cassem and Greg Maule; great-nieces and nephews, Laureen, Lisa, Sydney, Chelsey, Hannah, Jessica, Joe, Jenna, Taylor and Alex. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Raymond and Dennis Maule. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 17, 2017 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of Mass on Thursday at the church.
