Susan “Sue” M. Skroch, 97, of Independence, died Friday August 16, 2019 at Gundersen Tri-County Care Center in Whitehall surrounded by her family after a battle with cancer. Sue was born January 14, 1922, in Fairchild, Wis., to Henry and Sue (Dubiel) Sokolosky. She married Roy J. Skroch May 1, 1940. He died July 21, 1995. The couple farmed in Traverse Valley, rural Independence until retirement in 1982. Sue loved to cook, bake and had a huge garden. She also enjoyed crocheting. She made many beautiful afghans for family members and for the church festival. She also loved to grow flowers. Sue is survived by three children, Beverly (special friend, Len) Bautch of Oak Creek, Wis., Ronald (special friend, Kathy) Skroch of independence and Debra Kamla of Arcadia, Wis.; sister-in-law, Rocile Sokolosky of Atwater, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Leora Skroch of Whitehall; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; son, Allen; daughter, Rose Ann; granddaughter, Joline Skroch; three brothers, Adolph, Raymond and Henry Sokolosky; two sisters, Angeline Geisdorf and Lucille Springer; half-sister, Marian; half-brother, Herold; sister-in-law, Dorothy Sokolosky; two brothers-in-law, Jim Geisdorf and Charles Springer; two sons-in-law, Herman Bautch and Daniel Kamla. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass at the church on Thursday.
