Susan 'Sue' Wozney Hunn, 83, of Mahomet, IL and formerly of Columbia, MO and Independence, WI, died on Thursday, May 16th, 2024, at Bridle Brook Assisted Living in Mahomet.
Sue was born in Independence, WI on August 1, 1940, to Bernard Henry 'Ben' Wozney and Susan 'Susie' Emily Maule Wozney. She graduated from Independence High School in 1958 and went on to study at Saint Catherine's University in St. Paul, MN where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1962, studying Library Science as her major.
Susan was united in marriage to Joseph Bruce Hunn on August 5, 1967, at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Independence, and they celebrated 56 years of marriage before he passed away in November 2023.
Sue was an avid reader, and made her profession as both a Children's Librarian when she lived in Elizabeth, New Jersey before she was married, and as a reference librarian in Columbia, MO. Her love for reading and literature worked its way into many of Susan's endeavors throughout her life. She left a legacy at the Newman Center Catholic Church in Columbia, helping build, organize and augment the literary collection in the Kemper Memorial Library. She was well loved and respected at the Columbia Public Library for her knowledge as a reference librarian. And at home, it was impossible to count the number of books in her collection. She was especially fond of Tasha Tudor and Beatrix Potter. Her children and all 4 of her grandchildren benefitted greatly from her love of children's books, and she read to them every chance she got.
Together, Sue and Joe were very active in their Catholic Faith and in the parishes where they belonged. Susan taught Sunday School, was a communion minister and lector, and participated in bible studies and various faith-based activities. She loved gardening and music and played the piano for years. Family was incredibly important to Susan; both in her upbringing as well as how she raised her own family.
Susan is survived by her children, William (Kimberly) Hunn of Woodbury, MN and Susan (Jeffrey) Reeves of Mahomet, IL; grandchildren, Matthew and Joshua Hunn of Woodbury, Kelsie and Trever Reeves and Evan and Suzan 'Gracie' Shuff of Mahomet; sisters, Patricia (Paul) Sylla and Mary Beth (Allan) Gamroth; sister-in-law, Darlene Wozney; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph; her brothers, Bernard Wozney and Joseph 'JoJo' Wozney; her sister-in-law, Kay Wozney; her brother-in-law Paul Sylla; and her parents, Ben and Susie Wozney.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, May 23 at 10:30 am at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father George Thayilkuzhithottu officiating. Family and friends are welcome for visitation one hour prior to Mass at church. She will be laid to rest next to her husband and near others in her family. Susan always missed West Central Wisconsin, and even after living in Missouri for 40 years, she still called Independence "home."
