Shirley Gamroth, 87, of Independence, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Grand View Care Center, Blair. Shirley was born December 14, 1931, in Milwaukee, to John E. and Hilda (Abrahamson) Jelen. She graduated from Independence High School in 1950. On April 26, 1952, Shirley married George R. Gamroth in Milwaukee. Together they owned and operated Gamroth Mink Ranch in Independence until George’s death in 2001. Shirley’s life work and joy were providing for and raising her seven children. She was an excellent cook and baker. She was an accomplished seamstress; making many of her children’s outfits for special occasions. She was proud of her children and the fact that they all grew up to be self-sufficient adults. Shirley is survived by her children: Bruce Gamroth, Allan (Mary Beth) Gamroth, Dawn Hoesley, Pam (Bill) Boland, Scott (Virginette) Gamroth, Wendy Gamroth and Bradley (Susan) Gamroth; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Rudy Gamroth and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Gamroth. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; a brother, John (Jim) Jelen; three brothers-in-law, Orace Rogers, Chester Kluz and Edward Gamroth; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Rogers, Helen Kluz and Kathleen Gamroth. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2019 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass at the church on Friday
