Michael Richard Toupal

Michael Richard Toupal, 34, of Independence, passed away in his home on Friday, May 10, 2019. Michael was born January 24, 1985 in Platte, S. D. Michael enjoyed the outdoors and spent much of his free time hunting or fishing. He has passed this onto his children taking them along whenever possible. He also enjoyed spending time in the kitchen whipping up tasty dishes and experimenting with different spices. He enjoyed all kinds of music and his pets. Michael is survived by his fiancée, Mariah Samples of Independence; four children, Ashton Toupal of Neb., Sophia, Charley and Willow Toupal of Independence; parents, Lisa (Todd) Walz of Independence and Michael Hallman of Mont.; two brothers, Zachary Walz of Fairmont, Minn. and Josh (Jessica) Walz of Strum, Wis.; sister, Jessica (Jason) Balk of Strum; grandmother Carolann Toupal of Kimball, S.D.; Godfather, Dennis Toupal of S.D.; many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Richard Toupal and great-grandparents. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon until time of Mass at the church on Thursday.
