Marion Brickner

December 2, 1945 — February 25, 2019

Marion Brickner, 73, of Whitehall, died Monday, February 25, 2019 at Grand View Care Center, Blair. Marion grew up in Independence, Wisconsin. Marion received a two-year teaching degree from Buffalo Teacher's College in 1966. She married her high-school sweetheart, Anthony J. Brickner on June 11, 1966. She then taught a year at St. Bridget's Catholic School in River Falls for the 1966-1967 school year. After that, she stayed home to raise her four children (Robin, Deb, Carmen, and Kevin) and many other children throughout her life. She put her teaching degree to good use, as all her children (the children she babysat are included in this, as they all became part of her family) created things and learned much from her. Marion and Tony lived in River Falls and Luck, then moved to Whitehall in 1970. Here is where they became a part of the community, and where she raised her family and the children she babysat. She said she was done babysitting multiple times, but that only lasted until she held another baby. She refused to have more than one baby at a time, but she babysat for a family at a time. Marion didn't like surprises much, but her family threw her surprise birthday and anniversary parties. She loved singing, watching her birds, growing her roses, and gardening. Marion's house always had flowers from the spring to the fall in her yard and house. Her house always had roses inside and out and smelled amazing throughout the summer. Marion was a voracious reader, sewed her kids Halloween costumes (and clothes when they were little), crocheted blankets, made cross-stitch ornaments and wall hangings, cooked, and baked. Marion loved and laughed a lot. She impacted many families throughout her life, including her own. Marion is survived by her husband, Anthony J. Brickner, her kids – Robin Brickner, Deb Brickner, Carmen (Ed McRoberts) McRoberts, and Kevin Brickner, her sisters – Darlene (Greg) Fjelstad and Lucille Linck, her brothers – Jerome (Rita) Olson, and Richard (Doreen) Olson , her 8 grandkids, and 8 great-grandchildren. Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy (Reck) Olson and Orville Olson, and her sister, Lillian Bremer. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2019 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Saturday.
