Mae Berg, 94, of Onalaska, formerly of Independence, died Sunday, November 8, 2020 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. Mae was born March 6, 1926, in Ettrick to Arthur and Millie (Brenengen) LeQue. She married Elmer Berg July 24, 1954 in La Crosse. He died June 30, 1994. The couple farmed Silver Fox Ridge, rural Independence until 1988. Mae loved to quilt, sew and cook. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Chimney Rock Lutheran Church, Strum. Mae is survived by a daughter, Mary Ellen (Jerry) Vetsch of Galesville; son, Michael (Misty) Berg of Mondovi; sister, Marian Meyer of La Crosse; six grandchildren, Laura (Josh) Bendel, Jon Vetsch (Meg Hanson), Brooklyn (Dylan) Clark; Colton Berg (Olivia Weiss), Kortlyn Berg and Josh (Lyndssey) Berg; four great-grandchildren, Alison Mae Bendel, Jackson, Kennadie and Garren Berg; sister-in-law, Sandy LeQue. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; son, Daniel Berg; four brothers, Ole, Lyle, Carl and Virgil; three sisters, Shirley, Alice and Norma. Graveside service (with COVID-19 guidelines) will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 13, 2020 at Chimney Rock Lutheran Cemetery, rural Strum, with Rev. Paul Tobiason officiating. A Celebration of Life will be at a later date.
