Lucille Helen Feyen, age 84, of Blair, passed away at home on Thursday, September 8, surrounded by her husband, children and dog, Rupert. She was born to John and Catherine (Thoma) Filla in the town of Burnside on November 12, 1937. She was raised in Independence and graduated from Independence High School. After her children started school, she began working at the Glove factory in Independence. She spent most of her working years at the Trempealeau County Health Care Center as a cook and certified nursing assistant. After retiring, she and her husband, Bernie, started Feyen’s Hillside Garden. They grew flowers and vegetables and were fixtures at many farmer’s markets throughout the area for decades. They built one of the first hydroponic greenhouses in the area, growing more tomatoes than thousands of people could eat. Lucille loved to play cards and mow her lawn. She and Bernie were active members of St. Ansgar’s Catholic Church in Blair. They regularly volunteered for church projects, big and small. Lucille is survived by her husband of 32 years, Bernard; her children: Susan (Gene) Kohnert, Sharon Miemietz, John (Janet) Miemietz, and Sally (Jerry) Holldorf; her stepchildren: Margaret (Mike) Bailey, Joseph Feyen, Christina (Diana) Barrow-Feyen, Jim Feyen, and David Feyen; and numerous grand and great-grandchildren. She kissed a lot of baby toes in her lifetime. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Darlene Filla. Meeting Lucille in heaven are her parents and her siblings: Margie, Ben, Dorothy, Marcie and infant Joan. Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, September 12, 2022, at St. Ansgar’s Catholic Church in Blair. A rosary will be recited at 10:15 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to follow celebrated by family friend, Rev. Anthony Joseph. Burial will take place in St. Bridget’s Catholic Cemetery, Ettrick.
