Lisa (Smieja) Johnson, 59, of Independence, WI passed away on Thursday evening, December 9, 2021, under the care of Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. Lisa was born on July 19, 1962, to Adrian and Virginia (Servais) Smieja in Arcadia, WI. She graduated from Independence High School in 1980. She married Kenneth “Jumbo” Johnson Jr. on September 8, 1984, at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Independence, WI. They were together until his passing on April 18,1997. She spent many years of her life working at the Independence Children Center, taking care of the infants. She later transitioned to working in food service at the Trempealeau County Jail. Lisa loved spending as much time with her family as she could. She enjoyed scrapbooking, making homemade cards, and making crafts with her two granddaughters whom she adored. She enjoyed shopping with her daughter and spending time at the campground with her son and family. Lisa is survived by her daughter: Amanda (Quinn) Rupnick of Eau Claire; son: Casey (Courtney) Johnson of Independence; mother: Virginia Smieja of Independence; sister: Pam (James) Rotering of Waumandee; sister-in-law: Teresa (Joe) Kniseley of Taylor, and brothers-in-law: Dennis Johnson of Altoona and Jeff (Michelle) Johnson of Strum; two granddaughters: Claire & Briella; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: Ken “Jumbo” Jr.; father: Adrian Smieja; mother-in-law: Lois Johnson; and father-in-law: Kenneth Johnson, Sr. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Rev. George Thayilkuzhitottu officiating. Family and friends are invited for visitation at Edison Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m., and also one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Thursday.
