Joseph T. Halama, 89, of Whitehall, died Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Pigeon Falls Health Care Center, Pigeon Falls. Joe was born August 21, 1928 in Hale Township, Trempealeau County, to Jake and Julia (Filla) Halama. He married Shirley Larson October 2, 1954 in Mondovi. She died August 29, 2009. The couple farmed in Bruce Valley, rural Whitehall, until retirement then moved to Whitehall. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. Joe is survived by five children, Debbie (Roger) Misch of Blair, Joe Jr. (Wendy) Halama of Winter, Paul (Sara) Halama of Whitehall, Greg (Sharon) Halama of Whitehall and Tammy (Dave) Swanson of Eau Claire; a sister, Dororthy Leaper of Sarasota, Fla; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; five sisters, Tracy Korpal, Alvina Schlesser, Esther Skroch, Eleanore Kulig and Valeria Bohlinger and two brothers, Rufus and Gene Halama. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Whitehall. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Whitehall. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to Mass at the church on Wednesday.
