John “Sam” Voss, 64, of rural Independence, died Monday, August 7, 2017 at Gundersen Tri-County Hospital and Clinics, Whitehall. Sam was born March 6, 1953, in Mondovi, to Joseph J. and Angeline (Gierok) Voss. Family and friends will forever remember Sam for his love of motorcycles and his friendly spirit. He was always up for a visit and made new friends wherever his travels took him. When Sam wasn’t on the road, he was a dedicated employee of Gold’n Plump and Ashley Furniture until his retirement earlier this year. Sam is survived by his mother, Angeline Voss of Elk Creek; two sisters, Ann George of Trempealeau and Mary Kay (Ron) Sonsalla of Independence; three nephews, Scottie Sonsalla, Neil Sonsalla and Michael (Katie) George; niece, Jennifer Rose (Don) Fane; great-nieces and great-nephews, Brittny Sonsalla, Kaylee Fane, Peyton and Harrison George. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Voss; brother-in-law, David George; great-nephews, Brandon and Carson Fane. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 11, 2017 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Friday.
