Janice Lee Back

Janice Back, 83, of Strum, died Monday, January 21, 2019 at Heritage Court Memory Care, Eau Claire. Janice Lee Back was born on June 23,1935 to Ervin and Dorothy "Dot" (Granger) Shermo.  She grew up with her two siblings on their family farm outside of Strum, WI.  Janice graduated from Eleva-Strum high school and married Fredric "Fricky" Back on June 28, 1953.  The two had their own farm outside of Strum where they worked for many years with their two sons: David and Ricky.   Janice farmed her entire life.  She loved animals & farming from the time she was young and hiding animals in her bedroom, to working with Fricky & the boys on their family farm, to caring for stray cats when they moved into town.  She always loved farming and her dedication was unparalleled!  If she wasn't milking cows, feeding animals, or working in the fields you could find her cooking food for the boys and baking sweets to go with a fresh, cold glass of milk in a tin cup! Janice also loved to travel and spent as much time as she could at her beloved cabin on the lake.  You maybe even caught her at a few snowmobile races back in the day! Janice lost her battle with Alzheimer's on January 21, 2019 and is resting easy in the arms of God.  We would like to thank all of her staff and friends at Heritage Court in Eau Claire, Wis. for their exceptional care and kindness throughout the end of her journey. She is survived by her husband, Fricky Back, children David Back and Ricky (Shelly) Back, grandchildren Mandy (Bradley) Kensmoe, Chad (Jessica Olson) Back, Nathaniel (Jessica Hillestad) Back, Kelsey Back (Mark), Kye (Julie Yench) Back,  Koby Back, great-grandchildren Quinn & Gracey Kensmoe, Logan Back, Kaylee & Trenton Semb, brother Jim (Vickie) Shermo, sister Sherry (Jim) Schmidt, nephews Jeremy Shermo, Todd (Theresa) Brixen, Tony (Jenny) Brixen, nieces Tracy (Patrick) Holstad, Jennifer (Bruce) Smith,  and great-nieces & nephews, cousins, and friends. Janice is preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Dorothy "Dot" Shermo. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Strum, with Rev. Valerian Ahles officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Strum. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the church and one hour prior to services also at the church on Friday.
