Evangeline Hestekin

Evangeline Hestekin, 98, of Mondovi, formerly of rural Independence, died Friday, August 31, 2018 at the American Lutheran Home, Mondovi. Evangeline was born August 12, 1920 in Trempealeau County, to Eddie I. and Delia (Erickson) Kolve. She married Ervin J. Hestekin September 7, 1940 in Mondovi, Wis. He died September 7, 2015. The couple farmed in Trempealeau County for 15 years and then purchased his father's farm in Buffalo County in 1955. They farmed there until 1988 and purchased a hobby farm in rural Independence. She continued to live there following her husband’s death until moving to Mondovi in 2016. She was a member of Lookout Lutheran Church. She enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening and quilting. She also enjoyed farming. Evangeline is survived by seven children, Rodney (Betty) Hestekin of Wyoming, Minn., Audrey (Galen) Aase of Mondovi, Larry Hestekin of Mondovi, Carol Hollister of Eau Claire, Diane (Robert) Konkel of Arcadia, Dean (Jill) Hestekin of Independence and Dale (Carolyn) Hestekin of Hixton; 24 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Kathy Hestekin of Pigeon Falls and Pat Hestekin of Sugar Grove, Ill.; sister-in-law, Violet Hestekin of Eau Claire. She is further survived by nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Evangeline was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin; two sons, Wayne and Warren; two brothers, Galvin (Thelma) and Lloyd Kolve; a sister, Arlene (Clayton) Engum; two grandchildren, Jennifer Hestekin and Jason Hollister; a great-grandchild, Brianna Hestekin. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Lookout Lutheran Church, rural Mondovi, with Rev. Don Bakken officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
