Elaine Kensmoe, 96, of Independence, formerly of rural Strum, died Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Pigeon Falls Health Care Center, Pigeon Falls. Elaine was born June 19, 1922 in rural Cleghorn to Richard and Marie (Pape) Henning. She married Melford Kensmoe on April 18, 1942, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Clear Creek Township, Eau Claire County. He died January 19, 1992. The couple farmed in rural Strum. Elaine was a member of Chimney Rock Lutheran Church, rural Strum, where she was very active in Ladies’ Aid, Elizabeth Circle and quilting. Elaine is survived by a son, Robert (Sue Kaufman) Kensmoe of Fairchild; a daughter, Lori (Dean) Frazee of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Roger (Joanne) Henning of Cleghorn; three grandchildren, McAdam (Brooklynn Olson) Kensmoe, Broc (Kaylyn) Kensmoe and Brittany (Chris) Jewel; two great-grandsons, Christian and Beckham Jewel; a brother-in-law, Roger Kensmoe and three sisters-in-law, Elmie and Katie Henning and Emily Barby.. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melford; two daughters, Kathleen and Judith Kensmoe; two brothers, Norman and Leonard Henning and a sister, Leona Hagedorn. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2018, at Chimney Rock Lutheran Church, rural Strum, with Rev. Terry Lorenz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
