Carolyn A. Kloss, 98, formerly of Independence, died Sunday, June 11, 2017 at Gundersen Tri-County Care Center, Whitehall. Carolyn was born February 17, 1919 in Burnside Township, Trempealeau County, to Peter and Teckla (Wiersgalla) Kloss. She attended Independence Schools and School of Cosmetology. During WWII, Carolyn enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps, where she was trained and worked as a dental assistant at Ft. Sheridan, Ill. She received her basic training in Daytona Beach, Fla. She retired from a medical clinic in Naples, Fla. Carolyn is survived by a sister, Marian Juve of Wisconsin Rapids; sister-in-law, Marie Kloss of Independence; three nephews, Peter (Mary) Juve, David (Tamarie) Juve and Tom (Donna) Kloss; three nieces, Dawn (Todd) Toraason, Lori (Todd) Appleton and Jen Heffner; other relatives and dear friends. Carolyn was preceded in death by a sister, Theresa Lemon; four brothers, Alex, Bennie, Louis and Don Kloss; two brothers-in-law, Lloyd Lemon and Richard Juve. Special thanks for the wonderful care at the Gundersen Tri-County Care Center the last 10 years. Several care-takers became friends as well. Special thanks to Shirley Johnson for many hours spent with “Munchkin”. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 23, 2017 at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Friday.
