Bernard P. Pientok, 91, of Whitehall, formerly of Independence, died Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Gundersen Health System, La Crosse. Bernard was born October 2, 1926 in Burnside Township, rural Independence, to Thomas and Catherine (Mueller) Pientok. He married Adeline Rothering on May 30, 1953 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waumandee. She died May 23, 2018.Bernie worked at Land O'Lakes in Whitehall, did custodial work at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and school and then worked for Trempealeau County Highway Department until retirement. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.Bernard served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War from 1951 until 1953. He was a devoted father and husband. Bernie especially enjoyed mowing lawn and snow-plowing with his John Deere tractors. He took great pride in all he did. We will all miss his mischievous ways and wonderful sense of humor. He was a great example of patience and helping us be grounded in life’s experiences. Survivors include a son, Jim Pientok of Vail, Ariz.; a daughter, Vicky Pientok of Palatine, IL.; three brothers, Ted Pientok of Winona, Tom Pientok of Independence and Lloyd (Jan) Pientok of St. Francis; two sisters, Grace Roskos of Independence and Ethel (Jack) Sobotta of Holmen; nieces and nephews.Bernie was preceded in death by his wife, Adeline; two daughters, Kay and Cindy Pientok and a brother, Leonard. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, with Very Rev. Sebastian Kolodziejczyk officiating. Burial will be in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Sura-Wiersgalla American Legion Post 186. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until time of services on Sunday at the funeral home.
