Alfred E. Micek, 89, of Independence, died Friday, November 3, 2017 at Gundersen Tri-County Hospital and Clinics, Whitehall. Alfred was born October 16, 1928 in Burnside Township, Trempealeau County, to Stanley and Cecelia (Urbick) Micek. He married Marian Klimek October 12, 1957 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence. The couple farmed in Filla Valley, rural Independence. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, card-playing and especially fishing. He served as treasurer and supervisor for the Town of Burnside and on various SS. Peter and Paul committees for 30 years. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, rosary society and Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Marian of Independence; son, Steven (Janet) Micek of Independence; son-in-law, Ed Maliszewski of Arcadia; five grandchildren, Darin (Andi) Maliszewski, Abby Maliszewski, Bayli (fiancé Kevin Christorf) Maliszewski, Jenna (Neal) Peterson and Kyle Micek; three great-grandchildren, Esttle Maliszewski, Lukas and Benjamin Peterson. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Maliszewski; two brothers, Marcel and Joseph Micek. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Tuesday.
