Albert Wiersgalla, 82, of Whitehall, WI, died on September 11, 2019, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wis. Albert was born on a farm in Chimney Rock near Independence, Wis., on April 5, 1937, to Simon and Elizabeth (Mish) Wiersgalla. He attended school in Independence. Albert followed in his father’s and brothers’ footsteps to protect our country’s freedom. He joined the Army and served from 1960 to 1962. After the service, he worked construction in Milwaukee, Wis., and then worked for Ladish Company for over 30 years until his retirement. Albert enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada to visit family and see the sites. He was very close to his many nieces and nephews. Albert is survived by many of his nieces and nephews, Ron (Naomi) Wiersgalla, Sharon (Vern) Volovsek, Sandy Nestler, Renee Lebkicker, Jerry (Joan) Poehnelt, Dean Poehnelt, Pat (Ted) Zvolena, Mike (Tiki) Poehnelt, Bonnie Duda, Terri (Tony) Inhof, Darla (Alan) Helvig, Dan (Sue) Bautch, Jeff (Vickie) Bautch, Diane Dienberg, Gary (Vicki) Bautch, John Bautch, Jean Wiersgalla, Lynn Castricone, Shari (Jerry) Zell, Gary (Cara Lee) Wiersgalla, David Wiersgalla, Karen Wiersgalla, Kurt (Jackie) Wiersgalla, Lisa (Rick) Nelson, Sandy Pierce, Jerry Pierce, Mary Beth (Ben) Krall; sister-in-law, Angeline (Gus) Klimek; niece-in-law, Julie Poehnelt; their families and many cousins. Albert is preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Elizabeth Wiersgalla; brothers, John, Albin, and Ralph Wiersgalla; sisters, Irene Poehnelt, Bernice Bautch; brothers-in-law, Joe Poehnelt, Herman Bautch; sisters-in-law, Helen Wiersgalla, Lucille Wiersgalla; nephew, Duane Poehnelt; nephews-in-law, Byron Nestler, Russ Lebkicker; niece- in-law, Linda Poehnelt; a great niece, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. on Friday, September 20, 2019 at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, with services at 4:00 p.m. Burial, with Military rites conducted by Sura-Wiersgalla American Legion Post 186., will be in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, Independence.
