INDEPENDENCE – August “Gust” Palkowski, 72, of Independence, died Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare in Arcadia.
August was born October 5, 1937 in Independence, to August and Mary (Marsolek) Palkowski. He married Patricia Geisdorf April 29, 1963 in Fairchild, Wis.
August worked for Trierweiler Construction and was a labor foreman at the time of his retirement. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time at the farm and attending auctions. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia of Independence; five children, Sherry (David) Rose of Independence, Wayne Palkowski of Eau Claire, Mischelle (Dean) Grulkowski of Whitehall, Rhonda Hansen (special friend Jim Conrad) of Reedsburg, Wis. and Amey (Steve) Knopps of Independence; a brother, Peter Palkowski of Independence; a sister, Rose Prokop of Independence; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
August was preceded in death by a daughter, Renee Palkowski; a grandchild, Angela Rose; four brothers, Roman, George and infants August and Andrew Palkowski; and Dillon’s Dad, Edward Sylla.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Rev. David C. Kunz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 8-10 a.m. Wednesday at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, where there will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a rosary.
