LAURENE M. KOVAL
INDEPENDENCE – Laurene M. Koval, 84, of Independence, died Friday, December 25, 2009 at Tri-County Memorial Hospital, Whitehall.
She was born April 11, 1925 in Burnside Township, Trempealeau County, to Frank and Angeline (Kokott) Koval.
Laurene attended country school in Wickham Valley and SS. Peter & Paul School in Independence. She spent her life assisting her parents on the farm. She was a longtime and faithful member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, its Women’s Organization and Rosary Society. Laurene found great enjoyment in visits from nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Survivors include a brother, Frank (Mary Ann) Koval of Independence; three sisters, Leona Slaby of Whitehall, Marian (Vince) Karasch and Angie (Gus) Wiersgalla Klimek both of Independence; nieces and nephews.
Laurene was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Alosie Koval and Clarence Kowhal; sister-in-law, Leora Kowhal; brothers-in-law, Ralph Wiersgalla and Andy Slaby; nieces, Marie Kowahl and Martha Kowhal.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 28, 2009 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Rev. David C. Kunz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 8-10:30 a.m. Monday at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, where there will be a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
