Mary Ann Gabriel, 79, of Independence, died Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.
Mary Ann was born December 3, 1937 in La Crosse, to John and Hilda (Thimmesch) Kaiser. She married Raymond B. Gabriel November 28, 1964 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia. He died May 16, 2004.
Mary Ann taught first grade, for nearly 40 years, in Lookout and then at Arcadia Public School until retirement. She enjoyed casinos and traveling. She belonged to the Liberty Belles Red Hats and Catholic Order of Foresters.
She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, its women’s organization and rosary society.
Mary Ann is survived by a sister-in-law, Rita Slaby of Independence; nieces and nephews, Rachel (Byron) Fields of Whitehall, Randall (Veronica) Slaby of Independence, Allan (Dawn) Slaby of Eau Claire, Nancy Christianson of Independence and Rick (Sarah) Slaby of Independence; great-nieces and nephews; cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond and brother-in-law, Richard Slaby.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass at the church on Tuesday.
