Agnes Dubiel, 93, of Independence, died Friday, December 23, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Health System – Eau Claire.
Agnes was born May 19, 1923 in rural Independence to John and Catherine (Kloss) Saverinski. She married Clarence Dubiel Sr. on March 1, 1943 in Independence. He died December 15, 1983.
The couple farmed in Hale Township and then owned and operated the Lakeshore Bar in Independence for five years and farmed in Burnside Township. She worked at Gopher Glove for many years. After retirement, she was a bartender at Welcome Bar.
Agnes was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, its women’s organization, rosary society and served on the funeral luncheon committee.
Agnes loved flowers and was a great cook and baker. Her specialty was angel food cakes for birthdays. She had quite a sweet tooth, enjoying any type of dessert. She also enjoyed fishing. Family meant the world to her – she would do anything for them. She was a sweet dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother and will be missed so much.
Survivors include four daughters, Betty Stinson of Mt. Pleasant, Wis., Phyllis (Rollie) Reck of Milwaukee, Shirley (John) Konter of Independence and Kathy (Russ) Kujak of Arcadia; daughter-in-law, Susan Dubiel of Holmen; brother, Alphonse (Patricia) Saverinski of Independence; sister, Pelchie (Richard) Rathke of Eau Claire; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson; nieces and nephews.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband; son, Clarence Dubiel Jr.; four sisters, Genevieve Hagenbarth, Felia Kokott, Blanche Killian and Cecelia Killian; brother, Adolph Saverinski; great-grandchild, Jake Glodowski; special friend, Richard Stevens.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Wednesday.
