Virginia Kilness, 91, of Mondovi, formerly of rural Independence, died Thursday, December 8, 2016 at the American Lutheran Home, Mondovi.
Virginia was born August 1, 1925 in Dover Township, Buffalo County, to Theodore and Erma (Rick) Rudy. She married Lloyd Kilness on June 10, 1944 in Osseo. He died June 10, 2004.
Lloyd and Virginia were lifelong farmers on the Shady Knoll Guernsey Farm in the town of Dover. Virginia was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Canton. She enjoyed nature and took many photos of sunsets, clouds and scenic sights. Her passion was reading books and had an interest in books about World War II. She loved writing and receiving cards and letters.
Survivors include three daughters, Kathleen (James) Simpson of Woodbury, Minn., Doris (Michael) Gecewicz of Escondido, Calif., and Kirsten (late Dean) Heck of Mondovi; a sister, Linda Free of Hickory, N.C.; grandchildren, James Wade (Sheila) Simpson and their children, Maisie and Audrey; Trent (Victoria) Simpson and their children, Anastasia, Julia, Evelyn, Luke, Katherine, Nicholas and Elizabeth; Matthew (Kelli) Gecewicz and their children, Payton, Grayson and Valyn; Nicole (Jake) Davis and their children, Austin and Sydney; Russell and Melanie Heck.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; a son, Daniel; parents, two brothers, LeRoy and James Rudy; a sister, Glenda Getzie.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church-Canton, rural Mondovi, with Rev. Daniel Pfaffe officiating. Burial will be in Evanger Lutheran Cemetery, rural Independence.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
