Delores “Lori” Young, 81, of Independence, crossed over into the arms of Jesus Monday evening, September 5, 2016 at Gundersen Tri-County Hospital in Whitehall, Wisconsin
Lori was born April 27, 1935 in Little Falls Township, Monroe County, Wisconsin, to Charles and Olga (Bakko) Sanders.
After graduating from Melrose High School, Lori worked at Northwestern Mutual Insurance in Milwaukee. Lori left Milwaukee to marry Bert Young and start a family. Their first home was in Black River Falls, Wisconsin until they moved to the Young Family Farm in rural Sparta. Bert drove long-haul truck for Janesville Auto Transport until his death in 1982. Lori was the consummate ‘stand-by-your-man’ trucker’s wife-- ready with a hot meal regardless of the time he came in off the road.
After the kids were raised, Lori became employed as a housekeeper at Fort McCoy where she retired in 2006 due to health issues. She took enormous pride in her work keeping the officer’s quarters meticulous. She earned numerous recognition awards from her superiors. Her friends at work became a second family.
She is survived by three children, Dale Young of Sparta, Debbie (Jesse) Ball of Rochester and Pamela (Craig) Lehmeier of Independence brother, Charles Sanders; five sisters: Shirley Reynolds, Char Bradford, Mary (Stan) Rhodenhizer, Rose (Dennis) Warthan and Linda Bayner; two grandchildren, Bert and Ben Young and three great-grandchildren, Ayden, Bert and Alexia Lorianne Young.
She was preceded in death by her husband; five brothers and an infant sister.
Memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, with private family burial in Cataract Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Friday, September 16, 2016, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Saturday.
