Patricia A. Pietrek, 80, of Independence, died Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at her home.
Patricia was born October 3, 1935 to Ben J. and Celia (Walek) Marsolek on the family farm in Burnside Township. She married Raymond G. Pietrek on September 14, 1957 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Independence. He died October 31, 1992.
Pat attended Independence schools. She was employed at the State Bank of Independence, was the first full-time City Clerk-Treasurer for the City of Independence and then worked for the Trempealeau County Sheriff's Department as a dispatcher jailer until her retirement in 1998. After retirement, she worked part-time at WWTC.
Pat was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and served as treasurer. She was secretary-treasurer of the Independence Days Committee, board member of the Wisconsin Municipal Treasurers Association, served on the Independence Library board and was a member of the Rainbow Homemakers and local Red Hat’s for many years.
Pat was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, rosary society and Parish Council of Catholic Women of which she was a past president. For many years, she counted money for the parish and baked bread for the Fall Festival.
You often found Pat cheering on her grandchildren when they participated in football, swimming, track, basketball, volleyball and baseball. She was their #1 cheerleader!
Pat enjoyed going up to the cabin with her family and close friends, boating, fishing, listening to the loons and an occasionally trip to the casino to spend a nickel or two. Pat also enjoyed taking day trips with her close lady friends.
Throughout her marriage and retirement, she traveled extensively throughout the United States and world.
Pat will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include four children, Bob (Gail) Pietrek of Independence, Ellen (Jim) Smieja of Independence, Ron (Cami) Pietrek of Onalaska and Rick (Shelly O'Brien) Pietrek of Birchwood; four grandchildren, Nick Smieja, Ben, Emma and Gabe Pietrek; brother, Benjie Marsolek of Independence; sister-in-law, Anne Pietrek of Onalaska; nieces and nephews.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother-in-law, F. John Pietrek and sister-in-law, Anne Marsolek.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2016 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
