Edward J. Suchla, 87, of Independence, died Monday, March 21, 2016 at Gundersen Tri-County Care Center in Whitehall.
Ed was born March 2, 1929 in Arcadia Township, Trempealeau County, to Vincent and Catherine (Kampa) Suchla. He married Shirley J. Servais April 28, 1962 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Arcadia.
The couple farmed until retirement. Ed will be remembered for his fun-loving spirit and his endless jokes. He enjoyed playing cards and puttering around in his workshop, creating countless lamps and birdhouses.
He was a life-long member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Parish where he was an usher for many years and a member of Knights of Columbus.
Ed is survived by his wife, Shirley of 53 years; his children, Todd (Joan Marie Wirzman) of Apopka, Fla., Tim (Charlene Montoya) of Albuquerque, N.M., and Teri (Brian) Putz of Fountain City, Wis.; grandchildren, Michael (Jessica Nimmer) Lisowski, Joshua and Kayla Anderson, Sarah and Cassandra Suchla and Erin, Briar, Brooke and Matthew Putz; great-grandson, Dominic; sister-in-law, Eleanor Suchla of Independence; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Raymond and Valentine Suchla and Ruth Kulig.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2016 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
