Marian H. Wozney, 88, of Independence, died Friday, February 5, 2016 at Marinuka Manor, Galesville.
Marian was born July 18, 1927 to Bert and Helen (Knusella) Halama in Elk Creek, Wis. Marian married Jerome F. Wozney at St Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Independence in 1956. He died March 7, 2008. Marian and Jerry made their home in Wiccum Valley on the Wozney family farm.
Marian attended Roskos Valley School followed by Independence High School and Buffalo County Normal School, a two-year teacher school in Alma, Wis. She graduated from La Crosse Teachers College and spent her first two years as a teacher in Prague, Wis. Marian then taught for 5 years in Glencoe followed by 33 years at Arcadia Public School.
Marian greatly enjoyed teaching, traveling, hunting, baking, gardening, bird watching and mostly any outdoor activity. She was an excellent marksman with a love for nature. She was fond of the Red Hat Ladies and her retired teacher friends, greatly enjoying time spent with them. Family was always welcomed into her home.
Marian volunteered at St Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Independence, Grand View Care Center in Blair, Tri-County Memorial Nursing Home in Whitehall and Marinuka Manor in Galesville.
Marian is survived by a brother, Edward (Donna Mae) Halama; special nephew, Jim (Marilyn) Reedy and their sons, Prentice and Tyler Reedy; sisters-in-law, Verna Halama, Irene Halama and Betty Halama; nieces, nephews, friends and her former students.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome; parents; brothers Aloysie, Ray and Ernest Halama.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 22, 2016 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Grandview Care Center or Marinuka Manor.
