Rev. Roy L. Mish

Father Roy L. Mish, at the age of 81 and a priest for 55 years, died on Thursday, November 19, 2015, in Strum, Wisconsin. Father Mish was born on August 10, 1934 in Independence, Wisconsin, to Lewis and Caroline (Marsolek) Mish. He attended SS. Peter and Paul School in Independence, St. Michael School in North Creek, Holy Cross Seminary in La Crosse, and St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee. He was ordained a priest on May 14, 1960 by Bishop John P. Tracey at Holy Cross Seminary in La Crosse. Father Mish’s first assignment following ordination was as Assistant Pastor at St. Peter Parish in Stevens Point. He served as Assistant Pastor at St. Hedwig Parish in Thorp (1963-1967); Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Arcadia (1967-1969); St. John Nepomucene Parish in Prairie du Chien (1969-1970); and at St. Paul Parish in Bloomer (1970-1972). On August 30, 1972, Father Mish was appointed Pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Galloway. He was then appointed Pastor of St. Mary Parish in Fancher in 1977. In 1981 he was appointed as Administrator of Sacred Heart Parish in Edson and St. Peter Parish in Wilson. In 1987 he was also appointed Pastor of St. Mary Parish in Czestochowa. In 1989 he was appointed Pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Black River Falls. On July 15, 1997, Father Mish was appointed Pastor of St. Henry Parish in Eau Galle, where he served until he was granted the status of senior priest on December 1, 2001. Father Mish is survived by two sisters, Mary (Dale) Pederson of Strum and Margaret (Norman) Foss of La Crosse; brother, Marcus (Doris) Mish of Independence; sister-in-law, Darlene Mish of Cudahy; nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Caroline Mish; brother, Martin Mish and a nephew, David Mish. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 25 at SS. Peter and Paul Parish in Independence. The Most Reverend William Patrick Callahan, Bishop of La Crosse, will be the principal celebrant and Reverend Charles Hiebl will be the homilist. Burial will be in the SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Independence. Visitation will be held at SS. Peter and Paul Church in Independence from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with Evening Prayer from the Office of the Dead at 5:00 and vigil and rosary at 7:30, on Tuesday, November 24, and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
