Ervin J. Hestekin

Ervin J. Hestekin, 97, of rural Independence, died Monday, September 7, 2015 at Heritage Court in Eau Claire. Ervin was born November 11, 1917 in Buffalo County, to Elmer and Josephine (Engum) Hestekin. He married Evangeline Kolve September 7, 1940 in Mondovi, Wis. The couple farmed in Trempealeau County for 15 years and then purchased his father's farm in Buffalo County in 1955. They farmed there until 1988 and purchased a hobby farm in rural Independence but continued to help out on the "home farm" where his son is currently farming. Ervin was a past member on the Gilmanton School Board and a certified tax assessor for Dover Township. He was a longtime member of N.F.O. He was a member of Lookout Lutheran Church where he was active and held various offices in the church and cemetery. He enjoyed his cars, machinery and red tractors. He was always willing to help others! Ervin is survived by his wife, Evangeline of Independence; nine children, Rodney (Betty) Hestekin of Wyoming, Minn., Audrey (Galen) Aase of Mondovi, Warren (Pat) Hestekin of Sugar Grove, Ill., Larry Hestekin of Independence, Wayne (Kathy) Hestekin of Pigeon Falls, Carol Hollister of Eau Claire, Diane (Robert) Konkel of Arcadia, Dean (Jill) Hestekin of Independence and Dale (Carolyn) Hestekin of Hixton; 24 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Violet Hestekin of Eau Claire; nieces and nephews. Ervin was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James; grandchildren, Jennifer Hestekin and Jason Hollister; a great-grandchild, Brianna Hestekin; brother-in-law, Lloyd Kolve; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clayton (Arlene) Engum and Galvin (Thelma) Kolve. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Lookout Lutheran Church, rural Mondovi, with Rev. Don Bakken officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
