Adrian "Andy" Smieja

Adrian "Andy" L. Smieja, 76, of Independence, died Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at his home. Andy was born August 25, 1939 in Trempealeau County, to Andrew and Rose (Ressel) Smieja. He married Virginia Servais September 16, 1961 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Arcadia. Andy worked at Badger Construction in Winona until retirement. Survivors include his wife, Virginia of Independence; two daughters, Lisa Johnson of Independence and Pamela (Jim) Rotering of Waumandee; two sisters, Bernice Symicek of Onalaska and Delphine Wobbe of Wabasha; five grandchildren, Kim (Jake) Reidt, Greg (Abby) and Robin Rotering, Amanda (Quinn) Rupnick and Casey (Courtney) Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Claire Johnson, Michael and Matthew Reidt and Briella Rupnick. He was preceded in death by six sisters, Ruth Stalheim, Angeline Smieja, Dorothy Gunderson, Martina Boberg, Irene Sobotta and Katherine Saverinski and son-in-law, Kenneth Johnson. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 29, 2015 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic School Gymnasium. Burial will be in the SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the school on Saturday.
