Frederick A. Enger, 86, of rural Strum, died Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire.
Fred was born April 12, 1929 in Eau Claire County to Hans and Karen "Carrie" (Finstad) Enger.
Fred served his country in the U. S. Marine Corp from 1951 to 1953. He also attended Milwaukee School of Engineering. He was at one time a business owner in Franklin Park, Ill. He was instrumental in helping Mike McCauley and Ken Halama establish their businesses. His presence and input was of great value to both.
Fred loved to be challenged. He was a “master” of his trade, the art of welding and machinist. He was known by many in the area as the “man to see” to repair equipment. He built and machined sophisticated wood splitters, saw mills, etc. When the job was done – it was PERFECT! No question! He was also from a musical family. Along with his sister, brothers and in-laws, played for various occasions for entertainment. He also enjoyed wood carving.
He was a gentle soul, who will be missed by many.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Hildegard Enger of Eau Claire; nieces and nephews, Linda Swendby, Joan Smedberg, Joel (Susan) Twerberg, Robert Twerberg, Clair (Linda) Twerberg, Orrin Twerberg, Barbara (Larry) McGee, Gordon (Debra) Twerberg, Sharon (Gary) Hazen, Roy (Mary) Enger, Karen (Frank) Dalessandro, Kenneth (Carolyn) Enger, Kathleen (Jonathan) Strang and Krist Enger. He is further survived by great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Fred was preceded in death by siblings, Millard Swendby, Clarence (Erma) Swendby, Arthur Enger, Rebecca (Joel) Twerberg Anderson, Carl (Fern) Enger, Howard (Grace) Enger and Chester "Punky" Enger.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2015 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Strum, with Rev. K. D. Taylor officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Strum.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Immanuel Lutheran Church and one hour prior to services on Friday both at the church.
