John Edward Herman, 70, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 as a result of a heart attack while working in the barn on the Pleasantville, WI farm where he lived his entire life.
He was born at the Whitehall Hospital in Whitehall, Wis. on April 23, 1944 to Clarence Gustav Herman and Esther Marian Gjestvang. He attended the Pleasantville grade school and graduated from Whitehall High School in 1962. He married Karen Luann Higley on August 5, 1967 in Osseo, Wis. She preceded him in death on September 16, 1969. He married Connie Marie Haddeman on February 14, 1970 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Rock Falls, Wis.
He is survived by his wife, Connie; their 3 children -- Charles John (Cricket) of Pleasantville, Wis., Mary Lynn (David) Marsolek of Pleasantville, Wis., and James Clarence (Jennifer) of Nashville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Alyssa Natalie Herman, Brandon John Herman, Blake Austin Herman, Addison Morgan Herman, Logan David Marsolek, Emily Louise Marsolek, Clara Grace Herman and Jett James Herman; one sister, Marie Esther (James) Kruckman of Madison, Wis.; one niece, Beth Leslie Ellingson and one nephew, Brad Richard Ellingson; one uncle, Lester (Hilma) Gjestvang; and several cousins.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Lucas Robert Marsolek; his paternal grandparents, Emil (Ed) and Susan Herman; his maternal grandparents, Leonard and Bertha Gjestvang; his stepfather, Lester A. Berg; and several cousins.
John had a love for music and played with many local musicians since he was 19 years of age, thereby leaving behind many close friends and neighbors as well.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2015, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Whitehall, with Pastor Yvonne Marshall officiating. Burial will be in Pleasantville Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church.
