Edmund Pyka, 87, of Independence, died Friday, June 27, 2014 at Gundersen Tri-County Hospital and Clinics, Whitehall.
Ed was born in Montana Township, Buffalo County, on February 19, 1927 to Clements and Julia (Lyga) Pyka. He married Bernice Gierok August 29, 1959 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence.
The couple farmed in Pyka Valley until retirement. Ed enjoyed woodworking and selling his crafts throughout the United States. He was the groundskeeper at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery for many years. His family was his pride and joy, especially his grandchildren.
He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice; two sons, Thomas (Christine) and Tony (Marlet) Pyka both of Independence; two daughters, Theresa (Randy) Kulig of Independence and Mary Lou (Jon) Bisek of Arcadia and eleven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Esther Pyka.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
