Bernard "Bernie" J. Konter, 70, of Buffalo City, formerly of Independence, died Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center-La Crosse. Bernie was born in Arcadia on March 29, 1944 to Emil and Dorothy M. (Sluga) Konter. He married Marlyce Pierzina October 18,1969. Bernie was an avid fisherman and hunter. He took great pride in his grandchildren. He was a member of Sura-Wiersgalla American Legion Post-186. Survivors include his wife, Marlyce of Buffalo City; two daughters, Tonya (Jamie) Oie of Willmar, Minn., and Dana (Scott) McConnell of Eleva; brother, Wayne (Doris) Konter of Buffalo City, sister, Betty Klimek of Independence and brother, John (Shirley) Konter of Independence; four grandchildren, Jordyn and Jaton Oie and Ella and Nolan McConnell. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald and sister, Bernadine "Toots" Schank. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
