Rose Bautch, 94, of Independence, died Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Gundersen Tri-County Care Center, Whitehall.Rose was born November 29, 1919, in Independence, Wis., to Thomas and Agnes (Miemietz) Kampa. She married Eugene Bautch August 21, 1940 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence. He died July 2, 2001.Rose attended the Wickham Valley Country School and the Catholic School in Independence and would stay with her grandparents during the week. Each week, Rose’s dad gave her ten cents for spending so she could purchase three oranges for five cents and save five cents for Friday to buy candy to bring home to her sisters and Ben. Rose met Eugene Bautch at a basket social at the Wickham Valley School. Eugene was the teacher and he bought her basket. That was the beginning of a four year courtship that ended in their marriage in 1940.Rose was a housewife and worked 45 years at Ashley Furniture. They also managed Bisek Lanes in Independence and the Arcadia Bowling Alley. Rose had a passion for bowling which she enjoyed for 45 years, often as captain of her team. She went to many state tournaments and she received a 20 year perfect attendance award in 1987.After she retired, Rose volunteered as a Tele-care worker, SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Nutrition Center in Independence as well as sewing quilts and mittens at the Independence Clothing Center. She also volunteered at Gundersen Tri-County Care Center helping with games.She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, its Women's Organization and Rosary Society.Rose is survived by two children, Dennis “Butch” (Mary) Bautch of Watertown, Wis. and Doris Jean Bautch of Whitehall; daughter-in-law, Annette Bautch of Neillsville, Wis.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband; son, James T.; three sisters, Gertie Miemietz, Clara Riley and Julia Kampa and a brother, Ben Kampa.Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2014 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Rev. Timothy Oudenhoven officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
