Valeria Rose Sluga, 80, of Independence, died unexpectedly, Saturday, January 25, 2014.
She was born a firecracker on July 4, 1933 in Trempealeau County, to Robert and Frances (Guza) Bautch. She married Everett Sluga, October 20, 1953 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence.
Together they farmed in Traverse Valley with daughters, Sharon and Sandra and grandson, Bill.
Valeria enjoyed tending to her flowers and lawn, and after retirement in 2000, she enjoyed watching the music shows and dancers on the local TV channel. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and country rides.
She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, its Women's Organization and Rosary Society.
Valeria is survived by her husband, Everett of Independence; two daughters, Sharon Sluga of Independence and Sandra (Alyn) Knudtson of Whitehall; grandchildren, William "Bill" Sluga (Susan Gudmanson) of Independence, Holly Knudtson of Independence and Matthew Knudtson (Amy Sylvester) of Waukesha, Wis.; sisters, Dorothy Koth of Cudahy, Wis., Verna (Wayne) Dirkman of Fergus Falls, Minn.; sister-in-law, Jean Bautch of Independence; nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Theresa Weltzien, brother, Donald; brothers-in-law, Henry Weltzien and Ivan Koth and nephew Robert Weltzien.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
