Benedict “Ben” Kampa, 87, of Independence, died Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
Ben was born February 1, 1926, in Trempealeau County, Wis., to Tom and Agnes (Miemietz) Kampa. He married Dorothy Lyga on January 13, 1947 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence. She died June 29, 2004.
Ben was known for entertaining people by playing the accordion!
Ben is survived by four children, Diane (special friend, Ed Sonsalla) Lisowski of Arcadia, Mary (Darrel) Pronschinske of Independence, Sheri (John) Zilla of Independence and Ron (special friend, Pam Flikkeshaug) Kampa of Whitehall; a sister, Rose Bautch of Whitehall; nine grandchildren, Donald (Carmen) Lisowski, Darrel Lisowski, Amy (Brian) King, Sara Pronschinske, Jenny (fiancé, David Gamroth), Jessi and Jeana Manka, Brent and Bryan Kampa; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two sisters, Clara Riley and Gertie Miemietz; son-in-law, Dominic Lisowski and grandson, Dalton Lisowski.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
