Alta Slaby

June 28, 1931 — January 15, 2014

Alta Slaby, age 82 passed away peacefully on January 15, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 28, 1931 in Arcadia, WI to Emil and Eleanor Wolfe. Alta graduated from Arcadia High School in 1949 where special friends knew her as “Onions”. She married Ephraim in 1950. They worked the family farm in Independence, WI for many years, where they raised four children. Her lesson to her children was “You can’t get ahead by staying behind”. She was always a hard worker who loved having projects. As a farmer, she drove tractor, raised animals, and had a huge garden. She loved sewing for her family and friends. We want to thank all the people that supplied her with sewing projects. She loved going for her long walks; listening, singing and dancing to country music; and most of all, spending time with her family. She taught her children “There is joy in good work”. Alta is survived by her brother, David (Archie) and Mary Jane Wolfe, sister Mary Lou and Luke Pientok, sister Cleo Wolfe and very special friend Ralph Bisek. She is also survived by her family; daughter Susan and Gary Anderson, daughter Lois and Bob Krause, son Dan and Jodi Slaby and daughter Joyce Joy. She had eight grandchildren; granddaughter Heather and Ben Garwood, granddaughter Jennifer and Mike Rich, grandson Andrew and Kat Slaby, granddaughter Emily and Ryan Ockwig, grandson Joe Krause, granddaughter Danielle and Jon Ryan, grandson Bill Krause and Megan Flynn, and grandson Daniel Anderson. She had two very special great-granddaughters; Matilda Ockwig and Susan Slaby (with many more to come). She was preceded in death by her husband Ephraim Slaby and two sisters Rita Rumpel and Armela Hanson. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 20, 2014 at SS.
