Donald "Donnie" Lyga, 73, of Independence, died Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Gundersen Tri-County Hospital and Clinics, Whitehall.
Donnie was born January 27, 1940 in Trempealeau County, to George A. and Marion (Hagenbarth) Lyga. He married Evelyn F. Bautch on December 12, 1962 in Beloit.
Donnie worked for Jurowski Construction for many years until retirement. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and cars. He was "one of a kind" and known for his quick wit and sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; a son, John B. Lyga of Independence; a daughter, Laurie (Dale) Grulkowski of Independence; two brothers, George (Ethel) Lyga of Independence and William (Sheila) Lyga of Poplar Grove, Ill.; two sisters, Doris (Dean) Anderson of Strum and Mary Ann (Thomas) Bender of Osseo; three grandchildren, Lindsey Lyga, Alex and Andrew Grulkowski; two step-grandchildren, Angela Hibbard and Alisha (Cory) Smith; a step-great-grandson, Blake Smith.
Donnie was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosemary Shook and Mary Lyga and a brother, John Lyga.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2013 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Rev. Timothy Oudenhoven officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 8:00 p.m., at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
