INDEPENDENCE – Caroline "Carrie" M. Prokop, 95, of Independence, died Monday, June 10, 2013 at Gundersen Tri-County Hospital and Clinics, Whitehall.
Carrie was born December 26, 1917 in Maule Coulee, rural Independence, to Joseph P. and Petronella (Bautch) Kulig. She married Frank Prokop October 28, 1941 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence. He died January 7, 1992.
The couple farmed in Borst Valley for many years. They operated the Erickson Motel in Chippewa Falls and later retired in Independence. Carrie was proud to be the mother to many foster sons. She will be remembered by her many nieces and nephews for her delicious coffee cakes and beautiful quilts. She looked forward to spending time for morning coffee with the ladies.
Carrie was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, its women's organization and rosary society.
She is survived by a brother, Jacob Kulig of Whitehall; sisters-in-law, Eleanor and Irene Kulig both of Whitehall, Victoria Kulig and Rose Prokop both of Independence and a brother-in-law, Albin Woychik of Independence.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Helen, Patricia and Margaret and brothers, Harry, Ralph, Arthur and Joseph, Jr.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
The family prefers memorials to the American Heart Association or SS. Peter and Paul School.
