George J. Halama, 81, of rural Whitehall, died Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Gundersen Tri-County Care Center.
George was born March 28, 1932 in Whitehall to George and Anna (Kampa) Halama. He married Mary Jo Wecker January 17, 1959 in La Crosse.
George was self-employed in carpet sales and installation, carpenter and farmer.
He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He took an active role in his parish and community. Most important to George were God, family and his work.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo of Whitehall; five children, Patrick (Mary T.) Halama of Whitehall, Ken (Janell) Halama of Independence, Susan (Bryan) Breeser of Oconomowoc, Mary (Edward) Krien of Lake Geneva and Mike (Liz) Halama of Hudson; a sister, Phyllis (Ralph) Pampuch of Tomah; a brother, Dan (Ruth) Halama of Whitehall and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Noel Halama.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2013 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
