Peter P. Palkowski, 84, of Independence, died Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Gundersen Tri-County Care Center, Whitehall. Peter was born May 11, 1928 in Montana Township, Buffalo County, to August and Mary (Marsolek) Palkowski. He farmed in Montana Township until moving to Independence in 1984. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Peter served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of Sura-Wiersgalla American Legion Post 186 of Independence. Survivors include a sister, Rose Prokop of Independence, two sisters-in-law, Loretta and Patricia Palkowski both of Independence; nieces and nephews, Nancy (Dan) Suchla of Arcadia, Jerome (Margie) Palkowski of Waumandee, James (Lisa) Palkowski of Fountain City, Ronald (Sandy) Palkowski of Arcadia, Michael (Julie) Palkowski of Strum and Michelean (Mike Prokop) Palkowski of Independence; other nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Peter was preceded in death by brothers, Roman, George, August, Andrew and an infant brother. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in the church cemetery.
