Clarence "Amos" J. Mlynek, 91, of Independence, died Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
Clarence was born March 3, 1921, in rural Independence, Wis., to John and Helen (Bautch) Mlynek. He married Florence Gierok on September 26, 1949 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence. She died February 28, 2008.
Clarence was a WWll Army Veteran stationed in the South Pacific. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Sura-Wiersgalla American Legion Post 186.
He retired from Honeywell Inc. in Minneapolis. He also enjoyed working with his neighbor doing plumbing. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, basketball and baseball. He loved to go out to eat!
Clarence is survived by two daughters, Renee Mlynek of Minneapolis, Minn., and Naomi (Ron) Wiersgalla of Independence, Wis.; a sister, Val Lee of Minneapolis; a sister-in-law, Joyce Mlynek of Minneapolis; four grandchildren, Amy (Mark) Cropp of West Salem, Wis., Emily (Jeffrey) Israel of Chicago, Ill., Paula (Aaron) Reed of Minneapolis and Joey (Katie) Wiersgalla of Bangor, Wis.; and eight great-grandchildren, Samuel, Gabriel, and Elijah Cropp, Jonathan Israel, Ethan and Adin Reed, Riley and Weston Clarence Wiersgalla.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a brother, Rudy Mlynek and a sister, Joyce Gunderson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 13, 2012 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace and Rev. Paul Breza officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
