Lavern J. Hertzfeldt

Lavern J. Hertzfeldt, 88, of Independence, died Saturday, November 24, 2012 at his home. He was born March 25, 1924 in Independence to Armand and Mary (Lyga) Hertzfeldt. He married Theresa Klimek on June 30, 1947 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Independence. The couple farmed for 30 years in Independence. After retiring from farming, he was the caretaker for the Independence car wash and helped friends on area farms. He enjoyed gardening, car racing, machinery restoration and loved spending time with his family. Lavern is survived by his wife, Theresa; a son, Dan (Dana) Hertzfeldt of Rochester, Minn.; three daughters, Ruth (Tom) Severson of Independence, Shirley (Pete) Saverynski of Buffalo City and Judy (Steve) Bissen of La Crescent, Minn.; a brother, Eugene (Agnes) Hertzfeldt of Independence; a sister Mary Ann (Frank) Koval of Independence; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
