Monica R. Sylla

Monica R. Sylla, 94, of Independence, died Friday, October 5, 2012. Monica was born January 9, 1918, in rural Independence, to Francis and Hattie Misch. She was later adopted and raised by John and Julia Sygulla. She married Dominic Sylla June 10, 1940 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence. He died January 14, 2003. She is survived by six children, Robert (Barbara) Sylla of Independence, Martha (David) Updegraff of St. David, Ariz., Marilynn (Jim) Lyga of Beloit, Wis., Greg (fiancée, Barbara Emerson) Sylla of Independence, Daniel (Angie) Sylla of Independence, Michaelynn (Tom) Lambert of Trempealeau, Wis.; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter, Marie Risberg. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 8, 2012 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
