Verna M. Halama, 93, of Independence, died Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at Tri-County Memorial Hospital, Whitehall.
Verna was born December 16, 1918 in Arcadia Township, Trempealeau County, to Joseph and Annie (Kokott) Prudlick. She married August Halama September 5, 1939 in Pampa, Texas. He died January 26, 1984.
Verna loved her pets, gardening and the music by the Rhythm Playboys. She enjoyed her visits with George and Mary Jo Halama and receiving communion from them. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and its Women's Organization.
Verna is survived by a son, Sam (Mary Lou) Halama of Joplin, Mo., a daughter, Sally West of Austin, Texas; eight grandchildren, Jonny West, Jerry (Lois George) Baker, Robin Wyle, Debbie West, Scott Wright, Steve (Linda) Baker, Ronnie Ware and Chris West; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
She is preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Sue Ware and Shirley Baker; a sister, Helen Matchey; four brothers, Tom, George, Pete and Andrew Prudlick and a grandson, Randy Ware.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 16, 2012 at the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
