Modesta "Dusty" Stendahl, 86, of Independence, died Thursday, November 17, 2011, at Tri-County Memorial Hospital, Whitehall.
Dusty was born September 29, 1925 in Independence, to Lawrence and Mary (Gamroth) Pampuch. She married Ivan C. Stendahl on May 7, 1947 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence. He died August 22, 2001.
Dusty was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, its Women's Organization, Rosary Society, Quilting Group and Prayer Chain. She enjoyed flowers, crafts and bird-watching. She was a member of the Homemakers Club. Dusty exhibited at the Trempealeau County Fair for many years. She enjoyed baking for her grandchildren and was an avid Packer and Brewer fan.
Survivors include her four children, John (Mary) Stendahl of Strum, Dick and Patrick Stendahl and Jean Sobotta all of Independence; two brothers, Elroy
"Gib" Pampuch of Richland Center and Richard "Babe" Pampuch of Trempealeau; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Dusty was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Alfred Pampuch and a son-in-law, Robert Sobotta.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 21, 2011 at the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
